Wilma Mitchell, age 76, of San Augustine, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at her residence.
Wilma was born to Agnes (Lane) Jenkins and Jessie Jenkins on July 7, 1945, in San Augustine, Texas. She was a woman who loved her family, friends, church, community, and people in general. She would go out of her way to help anyone in need, and often put others before herself. She accepted Christ at an early age, and was a lifetime member of Bell Chapel Baptist Church. She was a faithful and dedicated member, where she was active in the choir and mission, until her transition. Although she attended Lincoln High School in her early school years, she graduated from East Liberty High School in 1963. Over the years she worked many jobs, but found her purpose in life as a Head Start Teacher and Caregiver until her retirement.
Wilma leaves to cherish in her memory: Three children, Deon (Nancy) Jenkins, Grand Prairie, TX, LaTasha M. Brown, Lufkin, TX and LaQunna LaSha (Alshawn) Perry, of Red Oak, TX., Grandchildren: Zavorski Martin, LaPatients Martin, Destiney Martin, Ahmad Jenkins, Amyah Loche, Amari Loche, and Kennedi Perry; Surviving Siblings-- Otis (Betty) Jenkins, Lufkin, TX, Herman (Leatrice) Jenkins, San Augustine, TX, Bettie Berry of Katy, TX, and Ada Ruth Malone of Houston, TX., along with a host of other Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Relatives, Friends, and Classmates.
Preceding her in death is her Grandson, D’Antonio J. Jenkins, Siblings: She was the fifth of eight siblings, three of which proceeded her in death: Sisters-- Opal B. Allen, Iva Nell Jenkins, and Eva Nell Jenkins.
Pallbearers, Shadrick Jenkins, Dale Jenkins, Winfred Jenkins, Eric Jenkins, Chad Jenkins, and Maverick Roberts. Honorary Pallbearers, Ahmad Jenkins, Alshawn Perry, Garland Jenkins, Amari Loche, Antonio Jenkins, Richard Edwards and Zavorski Martin.
Funeral Services will held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022, in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, 316 West Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas. Officiating will be Pastor Teal with interment following in the Lanetown Cemetery in San Augustine County, Texas.
Visitation will be held Friday evening, February 25, 2022, from the hours of 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home.
