Mr. William Darrell Baggett of Broaddus, Texas, passed away suddenly Tuesday, May 2, 2023, in San Augustine, Texas, at the age of 80 years, 8 months, 1 day.
"Darrell" was born September 1, 1942, in Malvern, Arkansas, to parents William Silas and Valah Clara (Hope) Baggett. He grew up in Columbia, Louisiana, and had lived in the Broaddus area for the past 22 years. Mr. Baggett served his country and was a Korean veteran of the U.S. Army.
For most of his life, Darrell worked as a grocer. He began working at Brookshire Brothers in San Augustine upon moving to the area and continued working there until his death. He was a faithful, dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Broaddus where he served as a deacon. He had a great passion for youth ministry and was chaplain for First Baptist Church's "Light the Way Child Learning Center."
His survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Carol Baggett of Kingwood, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Silas and Valah Clara Baggett; and six siblings, Billy Gene Baggett, Rev. Clayton Lee Baggett, Marjorie Cathcart, Gerald Baggett, Marilyn Wallis, and Sherrell Baggett.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at First Baptist Church, located at 207 Buchanan Street in Broaddus, Texas, with the pastor, Dr. W. Wayne Barth, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for Light the Way Child Learning Center at First Baptist Church; P.O. Box 600; Broaddus, TX 75929.
