Susan Jeanene (Henly) House

Susan Jeanene House, age 72, passed peacefully int the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 13, 2021, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease.

Susan was born in San Augustine, Texas, on October 12, 1948. When she was very young, her family moved to Lake Jackson, where she grew up attending Second Baptist Church. She graduated from Brazosport High School in 1967 and married Air Force Sergeant Tommy House the following September. They began their life together by moving to Denver, Colorado. When Tommy was sent to Vietnam, Susan returned to Lake Jackson and attended the University of Houston. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in education.

Susan and Tommy had three children who they raised in Lake Jackson. Susan touched innumerable lives as an elementary school teacher, Sunday school teacher, and sales consultant with the children's educational company Discovery Toys. She loved to travel, and she often recounted stories of the destinations to which she had gone with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Leona Henly of Broaddus, Texas.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Tommy, their children, Laura Fitzgerald (and husband Curtis) of Broaddus, Texas, Jonathan House (and wife Ranelle) of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Emily Hernandez (and partner Timothy Sanders) of The Woodlands, Texas; sisters, Sally Henly (and husband Jonathan Davis) and Rebecca Henly; grandchildren, Justin Wood (and partner Gina Howard), Joseph Pena, Allary Sanders, Blaise Hernandez, Mia Hernandez, Benjamin House, and Magnolia Sanders;  and great-grandchildren, Archer Wood and Rylee Wood.

In March of this year, Susan and Tommy moved to Broaddus to be closer to Laura, her daughter, caregiver, and confidant. In her last weeks, when asked what the best part of her life had been, she  answered "My children and grandchildren," and added, "Keep on showing love."

A graveside service is set for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021, at the Broaddus Cemetery, located off State Highway 147 North in Broaddus, Texas. Officiating will be Bro. Gary Thornton.

Pallbearers: Laura Fitzgerald, Justin Wood, Joseph Pena, Mia Hernandez, Blaise Hernandez, and Jonathan House.
