Obituary
Mrs. Nelda Sue Hilliard, a longtime San Augustine County resident, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023, in Lufkin at the age of 81 years, 1 month, 15 days.
Sue was born July 17, 1942, in Palacios, Texas, to parents Ella Frank (Cantrell) and Artis Hollis Harvey. She had been a longtime resident of the Broaddus/San Augustine area, working many years as a beautician with a local salon. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Her survivors include her sons, Kennon Evett and wife Sherry of Houston, Shane Evett and wife Linda of Tyler, and Tony Vardeman and wife Galina of Chesapeake, Virginia; Terri Pyle and husband George of Woodville; sister, Patricia Anthony of Nacogdoches; sisters-in-law, Nancy Harvey and Brenda Harvey, both of Lufkin; grandsons, Joshua Byley and wife Whitney of Pineland, Tyler Vardeman and fiance Rebecca of San Augustine, Trevor Vardeman of Nacogdoches, and Seth Evett and Kaleb Evett, both of Houston; granddaughters, Tara Fuller of Pineland and Katarina Vardeman of Chesapeake; six great-grandchildren; many friends and extended family; and a special caregiver, "Doll Baby."
She was preceded in death by her father, A.H. Harvey; mother, Ella Cantrell; step-mother, Ida Harvey Skinner; daughter, Veda Byley; sisters, Myrtle Parker and Carole Wood; and brothers, Louie Harvey and Artis "Bo" Harvey.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.
Services are set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Gerald W. Sowell officiating. Private burial will be at Runnels Cemetery near Broaddus.
Pallbearers: Josh Byley, Tyler Vardeman, Trevor Vardeman, Seth Evett, Kaleb Evett, and Cudder Fuller. Honorary pallbearers: Alton Steptoe and Bobby Williams.
