Roger Louis Crone Sr.

Mr. Roger Louis Crone Sr. of San Augustine County, Texas, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020, at his residence at the age of 70.

Mr. Crone was born August 29, 1949, in Harris County, Texas, to parents Lottie Mae (Johnson) and Theodore Crone and was a former resident of LaPorte, Texas. He was the second youngest of five siblings Richard, Charlotte, Margaret, and Ronald. He graduated from LaPorte High School in 1967. He was a gifted musician, playing the saxophone with heart and soul.

He carried his love of music into his career in the United States Marine Corps, enlisting in 1969. He graduated from the Naval School of Music in 1976 and was selected for Officers Candidate School in 1980. From that time until he retired June 11, 1990, he served as the band director in El Toro, CA, Quantico, VA, and Parris Island, SC. He received the Naval Commendation Medal upon his retirement for “21 years of honorable and dedicated Marine Corps service.”

Roger was a loving husband of 45 years to Judy, and Dad to Roger Jr., Jennifer, Star, Shannon, Jami, and Delton, and nurtured many more children through fostering. He had a special place in his heart for his 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. His many loves included sailing, camping, hiking, woodworking, and travelling. He was famous for his dad jokes…his fantastic sense of humor highlighted his engaging smile. He was patient, kind, and most importantly loved by all.

Roger and his family relocated to San Augustine County several years ago.

His survivors include his wife of 45 years, Judy Crone of San Augustine, Texas; son, Roger Crone Jr. and wife La Rita of San Diego, California; daughter, Jennifer Marie Studdard and husband Charles of San Augustine, Texas; daughter, Star Scaife of Cypress, Texas; daughter, Shannon Lopez and husband Paul of San Diego, California; daughter, Jamie Crone of Nacogdoches, Texas; son, Delton Crone of San Augustine, Texas; his siblings, Richard Crone and wife Nancy of Canyon Lake, Texas, Charlotte McCain and husband Guy of Albany, Texas, Peggy Elliott of Port O'Connor, Texas, and Ronald Crone and wife Sharon of Trinity, Texas; 22 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.

Memorial services have been set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas.
