Rachel Bennefield Obituary

Rachel (Sowell) Bennefield, age 79, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Sabine County Hospital in Hemphill.

She was born July 25, 1943, in San Augustine County to parents Dollie (Fonville) and Elam Sowell and was a longtime East Texas resident. Ms. Bennefield had worked several years as a medication aide at nursing homes in Beaumont and San Augustine.

Her survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Randy Sneed and Jean and Lynn Hargrove; grandson, Joseph Hargrove; granddaughter, Jessica and Demarcus Davis; great-granddaughters, JaMya Polk, DeKhia Davis, and Shalyn Daniels; great-grandson, Daniel Marvin Daniels; a brother, Robert Sowell; and her best friend, Marilyn Jagneaux.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dollie and Elam Sowell; a granddaughter, Dollie Sneed; and brothers, Prentis Ray Sowell and Richard Frank Sowell.
