Preston Steptoe

Mr. Preston Steptoe, age 91, of San Augustine County, Texas, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021, at the Summit Health Care Center in San Augustine.

Mr. Steptoe was born February 17, 1930, and was a longtime area resident. He was a member of the Baptist church and spent his life working as a farmer/rancher.

His survivors include his daughters, Brenda Cox of Marshall, Texas, Debbie Wilson and husband Jimmie of Broaddus, Texas, and Evelyn Runnels and husband Calvin of San Augustine, Texas; step-son, Van Sowell and wife Sabrina of San Augustine, Texas; brothers, B.P. Steptoe and wife Maribel of San Augustine, Texas, and Wyman Steptoe and wife Joy of Pittsburg, Texas; grandchildren, Casey Sowell and Angela, Jason Sowell and Jessica, Wendy Barton and Bo, Becky Collins and Brian, Mindi Cox and Len, and Jess Casey; great-grandchildren, Chase Ferris and Brittany, Colby Ferris, Chloe Sessums, Casey Mae Barton and Marshall, Cody Barton, Kaitlyn Woodman, Layton Casey, Makenzi Casey, Dalton Sowell, Kayla Sowell, and Melody Sowell; a great-great-grandauhter on the way; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by Lillie Steptoe and Johnnie Pike Parrill; his parents, R.V. and Annie Steptoe; son-in-law, Sonny Cox; a brother, Eddie Dale Steptoe; and sister, Christine Goyens.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2021, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.

Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel in San Augustine with Bro. Cliff Durham officiating. Interment will follow at Sowell Cemetery.
