Obituary

Mrs. Peggy Sue Orem Burrow of San Augustine County, Texas, formerly of Santa Fe, Texas passed from this life peacefully in her sleep on April 19, 2023 in San Augustine, Texas after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Peggy was born in Alvin, Texas, on March 30, 1951. She graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1969. She attended College of the Mainland where she received a Graphic Design degree.  She worked at various places including a print shop, American National and Autry Real Estate, however, she felt her greatest accomplishment was as a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Peggy loved her family above all else. One of her favorite things to do was to compile family genealogy and stories. She enjoyed spending time fishing and deer hunting with Doug, the kids, and grandkids. Before her illness she and Doug would love to travel. From a young age she loved animals, especially her horses. Watching the hummingbirds off the back porch, taking pictures, reading, gardening and her flower beds all brought her joy.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and LaVerne (Brandon) Orem, and her brother, Allen Wayne Orem.

Survivors include her loving husband of 30 years, Doug Burrow Sr.; son, Michael Schaeper and wife LaDawn; daughter; Brandi Wilson; son, Doug Burrow Jr. and wife Kim; daughters, Michelle George and husband Victor, Bridget Liem and husband Michael, and Melissa Kay Clark; grandchildren, Kaylee Edwards and husband Andy, Aaron Schaeper and wife Marifer, Alyssa Lege and husband Gavin, Jonathan Wilson, Trevor George, Ian George, Trey Douglas Chism, Kelsey Chism, and Savannah Clark; great-grandchildren, Finley Edwards, Sawyer Edwards, Liam Edwards, and Jasper Schaeper; brothers, Jack Orem Jr. and wife Judy, and Herbert (Ike) Orem; sisters, Shirley Cole, Barbara Griffin and husband Gerald, Joyce Campbell and husband Calvin, Edythe Holder, and Judy Trevillion; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peggy’s family will not only remember her for her strength and courageous eight and half year battle with cancer, but more importantly her love for family, nature and animals, her feisty spirit, her beautiful smile, and her big heart with love for everyone she came into contact with. She will be missed but her love will remain with us all.

A memorial service in Peggy’s honor will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, 316 W Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas.
