Margaret (Peggy) Dolores Green (nee Shaner), born in Le Raysville, PA July 1st, 1933, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 28th, 2020 in Houston, TX. Peggy attended Wesley College in Dover, DE after her high school graduation in 1951. She worked in the Pentagon and Navy Annex in the mid-1950s, and there met and married U.S. Army 1st Lieutenant Ellis (‘Joe’) Green of Broaddus, TX. Peggy, a Congregationalist before meeting Joe, became a Church of Christ Christian and remained faithful throughout her life.
Peggy accompanied Joe to France where they were stationed. She bore her first son, Wayne (m. Therese) in Europe. Moving to West Texas, after their Army service, Peggy bore David (m. Becky) in Monahans, TX, and Julie in Amarillo, TX. Peggy raised her three children and was blessed by God to see them give her eight grandchildren – Brooke (m. Nathan), Sebastian, Preston and Jessica (of Wayne & Therese in Houston, TX); Miranda and Micah (of Julie in Austin, TX), and Carlin (m. Jacki) and Evan (of David & Becky in Oak Hill, VA), and three great-grandchildren – Anna Perenna, Cassander and Aurelian (of Brooke & Nathan in NYC). Since 1980, Peggy has lived in Houston, TX. She is survived by all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mom will always be remembered by her children as one who never complained, except occasionally (and justifiably) about their misbehavior. To be sure, she never complained about her own account and will be sincerely missed by all who knew her. Peggy served in a number of church roles, i.e., church secretary, baker of fellowship lunches and singer at local Elder-Care Centers. She enjoyed playing Bridge, Pinochle and even ventured onto the golf courses of Kingwood, TX. She served as a full-time Mother, Cub Scout Den Mother, chauffeur to her children, and nurse to their wounds, but above all, she loved the LORD and was a blessing to her children for the Christian life she embodied and the Christ-like example she set.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020, in the Broaddus Cemetery, located in Broaddus, Texas, off Highway 147.
Services entrusted to Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 West Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas.
