Liberine (Hanks) Quandt

Liberine “Libby” Hanks Quandt, age 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, September 23, 2023, in Houston, Texas.

Libby was born on January 15, 1927, to Emma Loggins Hanks and James “Jim” Hanks in San Augustine County, Texas.

Libby moved to Houston at age 18, where she worked for many years until she met her husband of 31 years, Herman Quandt. Libby was completely devoted to Herman and always referred to him as a “wonderful Christian man.” They were members of and served faithfully at Houston’s First Baptist Church.

The ninth of twelve children, Libby often told stories of her brothers and sisters and what it was like to grow up in a large family in the country. Though close to all her siblings, Libby shared an exceptionally special relationship with her sister, Sue. Libby and Sue were the best of friends and the closest of sisters, whether they lived near or far apart. They depended on each other throughout their lives, rarely ever going a day without talking by phone.

Libby dearly loved her many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Up until her final days, she had nieces and nephews coming to visit her regularly, encouraging her with their affection for her. She knew that she was blessed by God to be born into the Hanks clan.

Libby is preceded in death by her husband, both her parents, and all of her brothers and sisters.

Services will be held at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home on Saturday, September 30. Visitation at 1:00 p.m. and Funeral at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at nearby Dickerson Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the services will be: Jason Hanks, Roger Hanks, Curtis McGee, Kevin McGee, John Lee Smith, Jr., and John Lee Smith, III. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Hillman Hanks, David Herrington, and Doug Herrington.
