Lena Ellen Chambliss

Lena Ellen Chambliss, age 83, of Chireno, Texas, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, in Chireno, Texas.

She was born August 19, 1940, in Shelby County, Texas, to parents Thomas and Viola (Fenley) Chambliss. Retiring after many years as a teacher, Lena held a master’s degree in mathematics and was a former longtime resident of Virginia. Her love of teaching continued long after retirement as she assisted many family members in their educational pursuits.

Lena enjoyed working in her yard and found many hours of pleasure in reading as well as working puzzles, crosswords and jigsaws. She also loved traveling, taking many trips throughout the United States and around the world.

Her survivors include a brother, Terry Chambliss and wife Elena of Mission, Texas; her sisters, Beverley McCauley and husband Travis of Chireno, Texas, and Barbara McCauley and husband W.H. of Nacogdoches, Texas. She also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Viola Chambliss; and brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Betty Chambliss.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Strong Cemetery, located on FM 139 in Huxley, Texas.

Pallbearers: Charles Raines, Robert Raines, Seth Costa, Joshua Taylor, Jaime Puente, and Jeremy McCauley. Honorary pallbearers: T.J. McCauley and Kenson McCauley.
