Mr. Joseph Wesley "Joey" Smith of Chireno, Texas, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023, in Lufkin, Texas, at the age of 42.
He was born June 20, 1981, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to parents Oswell and Dawn Smith.
Joey resided in Chireno for his entire life where he fell in love and married his high school sweetheart. For the last 19 years they built a beautiful life together in the town and church that they grew up in. Joey had a servant's heart. He was a lifelong member of Chireno Baptist Church, Chireno Volunteer Fire Department, and Team Texas. He was always willing to lend a hand when someone needed it.
Joey had worked over 20 years in the electrical field and was a journeyman for Alexander Electric.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and helping his dad work on projects in their workshop. Joey was a very proud husband, father, grandpa, son, and friend. He was proud of his wife and her selflessness. He was proud of Hayden for his willingness and ability to step up and accomplish anything he set his mind to; proud of Brayden and his ability to speak up and lead prayer; and proud of Cam for her drive and motivation that she found in sports. He was really proud that all three of them loved country music.
But man, you should have seen the way his eyes lit up talking about his Smokin Aces BBQ Trailer. The shop project that turned into a family adventure so they could share his passion with everyone. He was proud of that trailer and the people on it most. He was known for his sense of humor. He was constantly “picking” on people and giving them a hard time especially during his favorite time of the year--Halloween--here his aggravating tendencies were amplified and he got to make people cry (all in good fun) with his Twisted Insanity crew. He enjoyed spending quality time with his friends and family doing anything and everything.
His survivors include his wife, Tasha Smith of Chireno; son, Hayden Smith and fiance Whitney of Chireno; son, Brayden Smith of Chireno; daughter, Camdyn Smith of Chireno; bonus daughter, Jessica Anthony of Chireno; a grandson, Baylor Smith of Chireno; his parents, Oswell and Dawn Smith of Chireno; a brother, Matthew Smith and wife Rachel of Chireno; and niece and nephews, Owen Smith, Alexis Moore, Karter Moore; and a host of friends that became his family over the years.
