Mr. Homer Joe Fitts, age 69, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, at his residence.
Joe was born March 17, 1952, in Center, Texas, to parents Joe M. Fitts and Billie Marie Arnold Fitts. He was a longtime resident of Wells, Texas, before returning to the San Augustine area several years ago. He graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1974 receiving his bachelors degree in industrial engineering. Joe was the owner/operator of Nacogdoches Steel Fabricators for many years before his retirement. He also had a great passion for farming, hunting, and many outdoor activities. He was a proud member of American Trap Shooters Association.
His survivors include his wife, Carolyn Oliver Fitts of San Augustine; daughters, Lisa Cartwright and her husband Kevin Lynch of San Augustine, Linda Thornton and husband Charles "Hoss" Thornton of San Augustine, and Cathy Cathey and husband Jimmy Cathey of Pollok, Texas; grandson, Jason Cartwright and wife Jessica; granddaughters, Heather Childerss and husband Jace, and Cayla Lara and husband Mauricio; and great-grandchildren, Makenley Cartwright, Olivia Lara, and Matthew Lara.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe M. and Billie Marie Fitts; a granddaughter, Kristen Cartwright; and his grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2021, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at Fitts Family Cemetery, located on FM 3017 near San Augustine with Bro. Skipper Eberlan officiating.
Pallbearers: Westly Hightower, Brent Hopson, Bill Boozer, David Nettles, Jimmy McElhaney, Tom Thornton, Jody Goodwin, and Kathy Bell. Honorary pallbearers: Wesley Hoyt, Jimmy Sharpton, Bob Reed, Jack Nichols, Phil Sublett, R.D. Griffin, and Pat Vardeman.
The family would like to extend a special appreciation to caregivers Suzie Wise, Cynthia Bryan, and Frances Mings Burns, along with the staffs of Texas Home Health and Affinity Hospice, as well as many family and friends who were faithful to remain at his side.
