Hazel Wanell Pitts

Mrs. Hazel Wanell Pitts, age 86, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Pitts was born May 12, 1937, in San Augustine County to parents Ruth (Wall) and Roscoe Smith. She was a longtime area resident and retired from Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative's member services department after many years of faithful service. She also served as bookkeeper for San Augustine Rural Water Supply for more than 30 years. She was a member of White Rock Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School throughout the years. Wanell had a great passion for quilting and crocheting. She enjoyed making many crocheted hats for the patients at Texas Children's Hospital.

Her survivors include her sons, Larry and Kayla Pitts of Livingston, Texas, and Mark and Angie Pitts of San Augustine, Texas; grandchildren, Wesley and Brittany Puckett, Tommy Pitts, Wade and Maeydelynn Puckett, Mason Pitts, Blake and Bailey Pitts, Wyatt and Ranae Pitts, Morgan Ellison and Wesley Hargrove, Marshall Ellison, and Layne Pitts; and great-grandchildren, Westin, Jacob, Braycie, Phoenix, Konley, and Kendall.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Pitts; parents, Roscoe and Ruth Smith; and brothers, Harlon Smith, Dalton Smith, Keith Smith, and Eddie Smith.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas.

Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2023, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Sonny Scarborough officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Corinth Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Wesley Puckett, Tommy Pitts, Mason Pitts, Blake Pitts, Wyatt Pitts, Marshall Ellison, Layne Pitts, and Westin Puckett.
