Hazel Ivanel (Sheard) Steptoe

Mrs. Hazel Ivanel Steptoe of San Augustine passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, at StoneCreek Village Care Center at the age of 93 years, 11 months, and 24 days.

Mrs. Steptoe was born July 28, 1928, in Buna to parents Laura (Parker) Sheard and George Sheard. She was a longtime resident of San Augustine County and was a dedicated wife and mother to her family. In addition to serving and supporting her family, she was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Her survivors inclue her daughter, Patsy Joe Tipps of Minden, Texas; sons, Gerald Steptoe of San Augustine and Dell Steptoe of Nacogdoches; sisters, Doris Lisenby, Ruth Lane, Lavelle Widener, and Sue Sterling, all of Buna; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Steptoe; parents, George and Laura Sheard; brothers, Clyde Sheard, Estel Sheard, Nelson Sheard, and Tommy Sheard; and sisters, Georgie B. Sanford, Mozelle Russo, and Sheila Coulter.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.

Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Gerald Sowell officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at the Sowell Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Gerald Steptoe, Dale Steptoe, Stephen Steptoe, Blake Steptoe, Ray Thornton, and Don White.
