Garth M. Jacob Obituary

Mr. Garth Mallau Jacob, age 58, of San Augustine, Texas, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, in San Augustine, Texas. He was born February 9, 1962, to Maxine Luzia Mallau and Staton Jacob in Pasadena, Texas.

Garth was a 1981 graduate of Deer Park High school in Deer Park, Texas. Shortly after high school, he attended San Jacinto College and received his EMT/Paramedic certification. He later joined the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department on November 11, 1984, and he retired on December 16, 1999, joining the ranks of the "Burnouts."

During his tenure with the DPVFD, he served on the Executive Board from 1988-1990 and again in 1993. From 1990-1991, Garth served as the Lieutenant at Fire Station 1 and then as the Deputy Chief of Station 1 from 1993-1994. He was awarded the "Firefighter of the Month" award in August 1992. In 1997 Garth was appointed as DPVFD's first Safety Officer, reporting to the Fire Chief. Garth served a split term as Capitan/Lieutenant of Station 1 from 1998 to 1999.

Garth was active in his community as a medic for the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo where he achieved the status of Lifetime Member. He served as a member of CIMA, Channel Industries Mutual Aid, in Deer Park where he was employed with Hampshire Chemical Corporation then at Dow Chemical Corporation for a number of years. He was also a founding member and Safety Officer within the Texas A&M USAR Task Force 1. He was a guest instructor at Texas A&M TEEX with Harris County Field Days before relocating to Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, to be the Emergency Response Coordinator for Saudi Chevron/Phillips. He also served his community in Al Jubail as a member of JAMA'A (Jubail Area Mutual Aid Association). After 5 years with SCP, he then transferred to SABIC-SFTC (Saudi Fire Training Center) where he has been employed for the last 16 years as a Senior Fire and Safety Instructor.

Garth was a dedicated husband to his wife of 24 years, father to 4 amazing children, brother, friend, and Pop to his 7 grandchildren. He had a heart the size of Texas and never met a stranger.
