Mrs. Freddie Merel Butler, age 86, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Nacogdoches Medical Center Hospital.
Mrs. Butler was born June 22, 1935, in Nacogdoches County, Texas, to parents Ethel Mae (Lee) and Henry Russell "Dick" Knous and had been a longtime San Augustine County resident. She was a graduate of Chireno High School.
An important of her life was her family. She helped work the family's cattle and poultry farm while also being an excellent wife and mother taking care of the needs of her family. Freddie loved everything about cooking--not only the actual cooking but had great pleasure from discussing cooking and recipes, reading cook books, and watching the cooking shows on television.
She was married to Brice Butler on February 9, 1952, and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2003. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dalton Russell Butler, on September 9, 2017; her mother, Ethel Mae Lee Butler, on November 1, 1946; and her father, Henry Russell "Dick" Knous, on July 21, 1972.
Her survivors include her sons, Kyle Dent Butler and wife Mary Ann Butler of San Augustine, Texas, and Harold Brice Butler and wife Anita Gay Butler of San Augustine, Texas; six grandchildren, Justin Kyle Butler, Tiffany Ann Butler, Bailey Skye Pitts, Madison Fitzgerald, Colton Corley, and Taylor Glenn Tomlinson; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Shiloh Baptist Church, located at 4216 County Road 222, off FM 354 in San Augustine's Denning community.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Shiloh Baptist Church with Chaplain Terri Maberry officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Will Burks, Vince Brewer, Taylor Glenn Tomlinson, Blake Pitts, Colton Corley, and Nolan White.
