Dewey Hunt, Jr.

Mr. Dewey Hunt, Jr., age 84, of San Augustine County, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023, in San Augustine County. 

A longtime resident of San Augustine County, Mr. Hunt was born December 28, 1938, in San Augustine County.  After graduating from high school, he went to work for Alcatel Printing where he was in management. He was married to the love of his life and best friend, Mary Hunt. They were never apart for more than a week at a time, until her death on February 22, 2006.  Together they helped raise a beautiful family, enjoying traveling and he loved just being with his loved ones. He was a loving father and unselfish husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a member of the Baptist church. 

He was preceded in death his parents, Edward Dewey Hunt and Ivalee (Willis) Hunt; his wife, Mary Hunt; daughter, Sharon Hunt; sisters, Joyce Rushing and Lee Walpole; and son-in-law, BB South.

Those who are left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Tracey South of Terrell; grandchildren, Brittany Walton and Cody of Broaddus, and Shea South of Terrell; great-grandchildren, Coley and Briley Walton; along with numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends. 

Pallbearers will include Shea South, Cody Walton, Joe Walton, Greg Walpole, Lonnie Rushing, and Chet Rushing.  Honorary pallbearers will include Hubert Walton, Charles Powell, and John Willis. 

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at the Attoyac Cemetery in San Augustine County.  Visitation will be from the hours of 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Attoyac Baptist Church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
