Deolan Steptoe Obituary

Mr. Deolan Steptoe, age 79, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born March 25, 1943, in San Augustine County, Texas, to parents R.D. and Era Inez (Wall) Steptoe, he was a lifelong area resident and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Deolan was self-employed, having worked many years in dirt work construction as well as an underground cable contractor for Deep East
Texas Electric Cooperative.

Through the years, Deolan enjoyed spending time with family and friends outdoors. For over forty years, he spent a lot of his time in San Marcos at the deer lease. He also spent many hours fishing on Lake Fork with his fishing buddy, Jason Hines, his family and other catfishing friends. The Steptoe Lake House was always full of laughter and good times for all.

Once he caught up on hunting and fishing, Deolan embarked on another adventure. He purchased an eighteen-wheeler and began hauling rock in his “Big Black Mack” where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his trucking friends who tried their best to keep him in the middle of the road.

His survivors include his wife, Marilyn Steptoe; daughter, Mary Lynn Renfroe and husband Leon of Whitehouse, Texas; son, Michael Steptoe of San Augustine, Texas; daughter, Jena Boyette and husband Chad of San Augustine, Texas; grandson, Dustin Renfroe (Kylie); granddaughter, Emily Hesterley (Weston); grandson, Camden Boyette; great-grandchildren, Koleman Hesterley, Kade Hesterley, and Kynleigh Renfroe; siblings, Doyline Bennefield, Tommy Joe “T.J.” Steptoe and wife Nina, Margaret Chambless, and Linda Runnels and husband Jimmy; sisters-in-law, Muriel Jean Hines, Donnie Hornsby and husband Larry, Cindy Holmes and husband Pat, and Linda Earnest; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
