David McLane Obituary

David John McLane, age 87, of Broaddus, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at his residence in Broaddus, Texas. 

Mr. McLane was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee July 29, 1934, to parents, Effie and David Gilliam McLane.  He was a retired U.S. Navy Commander serving for over 30 years, he served in the Vietnam war as a Navel Flight Intelligence officer on 5 different aircraft carriers.   He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Louisiana, where he also played on the golf team.  He built churches and was a ordained United Pentecostal Church minister and served as a chaplain in the Fillyaw Correctional Center where he ministered the word of God to thousands of prisoners.   He was devoted to teach Bible studies to anyone that desired.  His burden was to minister to the prisoners, teaching one God, Jesus name baptism and holiness, as he often said, "don't go to the grave without talking to Bro. Dave."  He was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed doing woodworking, being a mechanic, and was a fisherman and a hunter.  He was an active member of the Broaddus United Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Diana McLane; children, Gilliam McLane and his wife Lynn; Todd McLane and his wife Wanda; Duane McLane and his wife Deliah; John McLane and his wife Lori; Shana Sutliff and her husband Ken; Eric Thorseon and his wife Gina and Joel Thoreson; grandchildren, Jared McLane and his wife Lindsey, Alex Grigsby, Morgan Odom and her husband Alex,  Ryan McLane and his wife Heather,  Natalie McNeil and her husband Aaron, Foster McLane, Allison McLane, Nicholas Teach, Mathew Teach, Blake Gregory, Bailey Thorseon, Samuel Thorseon and Tenileigh Thorseon; great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Rylee and Paige McLane; Braxton McLane, Noah McLane, Laney McNeil and Lauren McNeil; sister, Catherine Frey,  along with a host of other relatives and friends, and his beloved church family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Effie McLane and David Gilliam McLane, son, David Jerome McLane; wife, Rena Pearl McLane and brothers, Gilliam McLane and Steven McLane. 

Pallbearers will be Gill McLane, Todd McLane, Duane McLane, John McLane, Ryan McLane, Joel Thoreson and Eric Thoreson. 

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Broaddus United Pentecostal Church located at 1402 Texas State Highway 147, in Broaddus, Texas, with Rev. Nathan Hargrave, Rev. Allen Bynog, and Rev. Mark Green officiating.  Interment will be in the Broaddus Cemetery located off State Highway 147 in Broaddus.  

Visitation will be from the hours of 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2021, in the Broaddus United Pentecostal Church in Broaddus.
