David Hardy Sr. Obituary

David Hardy Sr., age 80 of San Augustine, Texas, passed from this life Saturday, August 28, 2021, in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born July 24, 1941, in San Augustine County to parents Esther Lott Hardy and Maurice Hardy.

David graduated from San Augustine High School where he played football his senior year. After high school, he was a driver in the National Guard. After the National Guard, he obtained his pilot’s license and then later worked at Pilgrim’s Pride in Lufkin while he studied towards an associate’s degree at Angelina College. He then traveled the country working for Siemens Dematic, a warehouse automation company. He enjoyed traveling the U.S. with his beloved wife Marilynn while helping to automate warehouse systems. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Later in life, he moved back to San Augustine where he enjoyed gardening, cooking, and studying scripture. He was a wonderful, loving father and grandfather and enjoyed traveling to visit his kids and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilynn Butler Hardy; his parents, Maurice and Esther Hardy of San Augustine, Texas; and brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Christene Hardy of Rosevine, Texas. He was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Duane Lawson, Ricky Brown, and Donald Lee Kendrick.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Liz Hardy and their children Logan, Brooke, and Paige of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Brad Long of Lumberton, Texas, and their daughter Brittany of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is survived by siblings and their spouses, Donald and Barbara Hardy of Broaddus, Texas, Joy Navratil of San Augustine, Texas, Lois and L.C. Ellington of Etoile, Texas, Frances Lawson of Nacogdoches, Texas, Nancy and Richard Metteauer of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Ruby and Earl Ellington Jr. of Lufkin, Texas. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly such as his cousin Larry Lott of Splendora, Texas, and Doug Hardy of Rosevine, Texas, who both helped David when he needed help.

Pallbearers include Dave Hardy, Doug Hardy, Richard Metteauer, Keith Ellington, Brad Long, and Logan Hardy.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 5, 2021, in the Liberty Hill Cemetery, located on Highway 147 North, San Augustine.  Officiating will be Dave Hardy.

Visitation will be Saturday evening, September 4, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, 316 West Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas.
