Clifton Ray "Cliff" Nichols

Clifton Ray Nichols of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024, at his home. He was born April 28, 1936, in the New Hope community of San Augustine County to parents Jerry Reece and Evie Fitzgerald Nichols.

Cliff was a hard working Christian individual who never met a stranger He served as an Elder at the San Augustine Church of Christ for the past 25 years.

He attended San Augustine County schools at New Hope, Ratcliff, and Dwire before transferring to San Augustine Public Schools where he graduated in 1953. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University for two years and then went to work at Texaco, Inc., in Port Arthur, Texas, where he worked for 40 years.

Cliff married his high school sweetheart, George Ann Mast, in 1955 and they enjoyed a very happy marriage of almost 69 years. After his retirement he and Ann moved back to San Augustine to their farm where Cliff enjoyed taking care of his herd of Black Angus cattle, doing church work and living close to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife and sons, Dr. Mark Nichols of Houston, Kirk Nichols of San Augustine, and Kyle Nichols of Henderson. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Kody and Chelsea Nichols of San Augustine, Reid and Holly Nichols of Joaquin, Jared and Sarah Nichols of San Augustine, Kylee Nichols of Dallas, and Klint and Bri Nichols of Bullard. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Blake, Barrett, Ella, Scarlett, Livi, Cole, and Cash Nichols; sister, Iris Stanaland of Bullard; brother, Jerry Nicholas and wife Linda of Nacogdoches; sisters-in-law, Una Nichols of Georgetown, Texas, Donna Nichols of Orange, Texas, and Sandra Nichols of Martinsville, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond, Preston, and Neal; and brother-in-law, Vernis Stanaland.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the San Augustine Church of Christ. Conducting the funeral will be Larry Jackson, Dan Fussell, and Stephen Wiggins with burial to follow in the Shiloh Cemetery in the New Hope Community. Conducting the graveside service will be Austin Wiggins, Wesley Wiggins, and Jared Nichols.

Pallbearers: Kody, Reid, Jared, and Klint Nichols, Tyler Foley, and Brad Mathews. Honorary pallbearers will be all the men of the San Augustine Church of Christ.

Memorials may be made to the San Augustine Church of Christ Building Fund or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
