Charles W. Morton

Mr. Charles W. Morton of San Augustine County, Texas, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021, at Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin, Texas.

He was born November 10, 1939, in Woden, Texas, to parents Oran Neal Morton and Bernice (Bridges) Morton. Mr. Morton was a former longtime resident of Channelview, Texas, before returning to the East Texas area upon his retirement. He was a member of Chireno Baptist Church and retired from the Channelview Paper Mill with more than 30 years of service.

His survivors include his daughter, Fonda Morton of San Augustine, Texas; a granddaughter, Courtney Morton of San Augustine, Texas; great-grandchildren, Layne Morton and Grace Morton, both of San Augustine, Texas; sisters, Billie Lee of Humble, Texas, Barbara Brown and husband Charles of Mississippi, and Helen Fuelberg and husband Ronald of Humble, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Margaret Morton, on March 10, 2020; a daughter, Jan Renee Morton; parents, Bernice and Oran Neal Morton; and a sister, Patsy Templeton.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with services following at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Mike Belgard officiating. Interment will follow at Simpson Campground Cemetery, located on County Road 411 in Woden, Texas. 

Pallbearers: John Apollo, Dwayne Bennett, Jeremy McCauley, Dennis Lee, Derell Gardner, David Smith, and Stetson Garrett. Honorary pallbearers: Layne Morton, Ronnie Butler, and Haron Russell.
