Mr. Charles Edward "Hoss" Thornton, age 63, of San Augustine County, Texas, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022, in San Augustine County.
He was born December 18, 1958, in Shelby County, Texas, to parents L.T. and Mildred Marie (White) Thornton. "Hoss" was a lifelong area resident and worked as a millwright at D&I Wood Products. He had a great passion for working cattle as well. An avid outdoorsman, Hoss had a genuine love for hunting, fishing, and gardening.
His survivors include his wife, Linda Thornton of San Augustine; his daughter, Cayla Lara and husband Mauricio of San Augustine; grandchildren, Olivia and Matthew Lara of San Augustine; a bonus daughter, Leslie Jordan; his siblings, Ronald Thornton of Chireno, Ray Thornton of San Augustine, Lynn Thornton of San Augustine, Tom Thornton of San Augustine, Ida Butler and husband Cornell of San Augustine, Sue Wall and husband Robert of Newton, Hollis Thornton of San Augustine, Peggy Brown and husband Jerry of Nacogdoches, and William Thornton of San Augustine; sisters-in-law, Jean Thornton of Lufkin, Lisa Cartwright and husband Kevin Lynch of San Augustine, and Cathy Cathey and husband Jimmy of Pollok; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cesaley Nicole Thornton; his parents, L.T. and Mildred Marie Thornton; a sister, Patsy Thornton; a brother, Donald Thornton; and honorary parents, John and Cecil Wall.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, at the Fitts Family Cemetery, located at 882 FM 3017 in San Augustine.
Pallbearers: Cory Thornton, Jason Brown, Jared Brown, Thomas Oliver, Wesley Wall, and Bradley Wall.
Honorary pallbearers: Willie Wall, Angel Mata, Wesley Hoyt, Bruce Edwards, David Nettles, Stacy McSwain, Michael Haley, Dell Steptoe, and Ronald Wayne Hensarling.
His family suggests memorials to the Leukemia Society or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
