Charles Bryan Obituary

Mr. Charles Bryan, age 91, of San Augustine passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021. He was born July 8, 1929, in southern San Augustine County's White City community to C.E. (Charlie) and Lushia Bryan.

He worked in the grocery business with his parents for many years at C.E. Bryan & Son Grocery. He purchased the McLemore Meat Packing Plant and operated it as Bryan Locker Plant until he was elected Sheriff of San Augustine County in 1988. He was sheriff for eight years.

Mr. Bryan loved people. He had a bigger than life personality and never met a stranger, which was evident during the time in which he raised and showed registered quarter horses. He was an avid supporter of 4-H and FFA activities.

He is survived by his sons, David Bryan of San Augustine and Michael (Keisha) Bryan of Lufkin; daughter, Carla (Ron) Niebuhr of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; two grandsons, Tyler (Jessica) Bryan of Lufkin and Hayden Dial of Lufkin; two granddaughters, Ashley (Johnny) Beck of Corpus Christi and Payton Watts of Lufkin; 7 great-grandchildren; niece, Sharon (Mike) Bridges; nephew, Keith Jasper; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Bryan; parents, C.E. and Lushia Bryan; parents-in-law, Curtis and Ida Mae Jasper; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Linda Jasper.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2021, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.

Funeral services are set for 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2021, at First Baptist Church, located at 502 E. Columbia Street in San Augustine, with Bro. Jim Moss officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Tyler Bryan, Hayden Dial, Ron Niebuhr, Gerald King, Larry Saurage, and Brad Smith.
