Betty Grace Wilson

On Thursday, July 30, 2020, Betty Grace Wilson of Chireno passed peacefully from this earth to the heights of heaven at age 77.

Betty was born on February 20, 1943, in Portales, New Mexico, to Woodrow and Elizabeth Tackett. She was wed to the late Warner Percy Wilson in the Chireno Methodist Church on June 15, 1963. They raised three children, Lisa, Susan, and Stephen.

Betty's career began working in the business office at Stephen F. Austin State University.  Later, she was employed the Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative and developed the very first keypunch system. However, she realized her true calling was home health duty and went on to receive her nursing degree from Angelina College. Yet, her most cherished position was that of a devoted wife and stay at home mother.

Betty had a giving and compassionate heart, always offering to help those in need or give to those around her. She loved fiercely and lived fully. Her ability to grow a beautiful plant from nothing but a twig and love for family beach trips were hobbies that she passed down to generations behind.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Warner; her father, Woodrow; her mother, Elizabeth; her sisters, Carolyn Carter and Lenda Bailey; her brother-in-law, AG Geisendorff; and a nephew, Ricky Layfield.

She is survived by her three children, Lisa and husband Edwin Henly, Susan and husband Ronald Higginbotham, and Stephen and wife Ricci Jean Wilson; grandchildren, Drew Higginbotham and wife Markie, Casey Henly and wife Haley, Jake Higginbotham and wife Lisa, Chase Higginbotham and wife Carrigan, Callie Grace Cline and husband Garrett, and Ty Wilson; great-grandchildren, Addison, Caden, Molly, Brooke, Quinn, and Cooper;  her sister, Ruby Dee Geisendorff; brothers-in-law, Roger Bailey, and Grier Wilson; and eight nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 2, 2020, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2020, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Michael Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow at the Lower Chireno Cemetery.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
