Mr. Alfred Gene Sowell, age 74, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, at CHI St. Luke's Medical Center in Lufkin, Texas.
"Gene" was born Sept. 16, 1947, in Angelina County, Texas, to parents James Alfred and Imogene (Shatto) Sowell. He was a former longtime Houston area resident and had lived in San Augustine County for the past several years. Mr. Sowell worked several years as a heating and air conditioning technician.
He enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and gardening, especially mowing. Mr. Sowell, a member of CrossRoads Christian Center Church, was a graduate of Diboll High School.
His survivors include his wife, Joy Nell Parker Sowell of San Augustine County; a sister, Linda Kay Tolly of Diboll, Texas; an aunt, Georgia Ann Miller of El Paso, Texas; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Miller and husband Ken of Hockley, Texas, and Sherry Lockley of New Braunfels, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Alfred and Imogene Sowell; his brother, Lee Roy Sowell; a sister, Mary Ann McBride; parents-in-law, J.W. and Wilma Parker; and brother-in-law, John Wesley Parker.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home.
Services are set for 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tim Swanson officiating. Interment will follow at the Sowell Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Michael Shane Mosley, J.T. Parker, Donald Lee Sowell, Kevin Eugene Tolly, Harmon Wayne Flournoy, and Hoy Teal. Honorary pallbearer is Rick Smith.
