Robert Baker Obituary

Mr. Robert Clymen Baker was born January 31, 1936, to R.E. and Myrtie Sanders Baker in Broaddus, Texas. He passed away at his home surrounded by his beloved wife and son, Ann and Wayne, on September 26, 2019.
Robert's family called him "Clymen," but when he started working, everyone mispronounced his name, so he started using his first name, Robert.
Robert married the love of his live, Elizabeth Ann Sherman, at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in San Augustine where Ann's father, Bro. O.L. Sherman, was the pastor on November 16, 1936. Upon his passing, Robert and Ann had shared 62 blessed years together.
Robert spent his life in the grocery business where he managed Brookshire Brothers in San Augustine for ten years. He and Ann owned their own store in Broaddus for over 12 years. After that he worked in grocery stores in Pittsburg, Texas, where they lived for six years. He and Ann had their own lawn mowing service for several years until his health prohibited him from working. Robert was always a hard worker and provided well for his family.
Robert loved the Lord and loved serving in the church. Over the years, he had served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, sang in choir, and his favorite way to serve the Lord was to play his guitar and sing specials. He and a number of friends, Doug Campbell, Tommy Hunter, James and Shirley Blue, and others, played at church and local events. There was always music in the Baker house. Every year for their anniversary, Robert would play his guitar in church and sing to Ann their favorite song, "You're My Best Friend."
Robert loved his family and took them on vacations every chance he got. He loved traveling with family and friends, especially to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee.
Robert was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Broaddus.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Ann of San Augustine; his beloved son, Wayne of San Augustine; his number one daughter, Sheila Hughes and her husband Scooter of Center; and the "apple ofhis eye," his granddaughter, Carmen Stephens and husband Ray of Natchitoches, Louisiana.
He is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Sheard of Rosharon, Esther Wilson and husband Leroy of Chireno, and Shirley Kinard of Florida. He leaves, too, a host of family and friends who will be left with many precious memories of their times together.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, R.E. and Myrtie Baker; and his brother, Wesley Baker.
Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Trinity Baptist Church, located on FM 83 East in Broaddus, with Bro. Don Lofton and Bro. Jim Moss officiating. Interment will follow at Broaddus Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Trinity Baptist Church.
Pallbearers: Jeff Eberlan, Ray Stephens, Randy Baker, Scooter Hughes, Brent Weatherford, and Terry Lott.
