Funeral services for Hollis Harold Russell, age 90 of San Augustine will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019,at 12:00 at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jonathan Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow at the Antioch Church of Christ Cemetery in San Augustine.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019, from the hour of 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, 316 West Columbia Street in San Augustine.
Hollis Harold was born on March 19, 1929, in Larslan, Montana to William and Bertha Russell. He enlisted in the Navy on February 7, 1947, and served at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba until March 22, 1950. After leaving the Navy, he attended Spartan Aircraft School to become a licensed aircraft mechanic.
He and his wife went to South America in 1955, where he was a mechanic on Bell Helicopters for 6 years. They had three daughters born while living in Barranquilla, Colombia. After their return in 1961, he continued working on helicopters and then was hired by Texas International and retired from Continental Airlines in March 1994. He and his wife upon retirement moved to San Augustine, Texas. His life long passion of aviation continued as he rebuilt and flew his second Luscombe.
During their 64 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling to New Zealand, Scotland, France, and other destinations in Europe. They also traveled extensively in the United States, including two road trips to Alaska.
Those who are left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Peggy Ann and Rickey Keel of New Caney, Texas, Sharon Kay and Alain Lancry of Maresches, France, Karen Faye and Frederick Rice of Conroe, Texas; brother, Stanley and Allie Russell of Larslan, Montana; grandsons, Clifford Rice of Splendora, Texas; Brady Rice of Conroe, Texas and Paul Lancry of Maresches, France; granddaughters, Kimberly and Pete Ybanez of Spring, Texas, and Rebekah Keel of Arlington, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey Marie Russell; grandson, Alexandre Lancry; brother, Verlin Russell; sister, Roxanna Fuhrman; and his beloved parents, William and Bertha Russell.
Pallbearers will include Clifford Rice, Brady Rice, Fred Rice, Rickey Keel, and Pete Ybanez.
