Burl Wesley "Wes" Youngblood, Jr.

March 13, 1967 ~ February 18, 2022 (age 54)

Obituary

The Lord delivered a perfect baby boy, Burl Wesley Youngblood, Jr., "Wes" on March 13, 1967, to ecstatic parents and sisters.  He was with us for a much too short 54 years and departed this earth February 18, 2022.  Our angel is now in the waiting arms of his parents, Burl and Athalee Youngblood who had the greatest love for him.  He is surely entertaining his grandmothers, aunts, uncles, and cousins up in heaven.

Little Whistler, as nicknamed by Daddy, exuded pure love, was highly intelligent and a jokester.  He had an infectious smile and wonderful hugs which are profoundly missed by his sisters, Sandee Simmons, Shirley Schier, Reva Cook, Regena Curbow, Sonya Youngblood, his special sister friend, Kathy Brittain, and his special friend Lorraine Putnam, along with his nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Wes attended school at San Augustine and enjoyed selling ice cream during lunch at the Intermediate School and assisting his fellow other-abled students.  After school, he would march right up the street with his broom to help his MaMamie Isenblitter with her flowers and yard work and she rewarded him with a freshly baked cake or treat afterwards.  Otherwise, he would be playing basketball in his yard and making sure his yard looked good,  or working out with his best buddies Dillon and David Garner, Jr.  Children were always his favorites and he would greet them with a tickle under their chin along with a hug and he assisted at the day care for years.

Wes worked for several years at the Burke Center Center Sheltered Workshops in Center and San Augustine.  Wes attended speech therapy for several years at SFASU, where it was discovered he had very little hearing his entire life, which was corrected with hearing aids.  He was always ready to attend football and basketball games there and enjoyed listening to the band play at the games and homecoming activities.  Singing, dancing, leading the band, and joking around gave him a great deal of pleasure.

Wesley was the light of his sisters' lives and traveled with them all over the Western United States to the beaches, mountains, and deserts of Texas, California, Colorado, and Arizona.  He visited the Houston and San Diego Zoos and always spent hours admiring the primates, monkeys, and gorillas.  He loved to travel, see the new sights and was the best co-pilot ever.

Wesley relished all things outdoors and was always active jumping on and riding his 4-wheeler, mowing the lawn, sweeping the sidewalks and helping his father out in the woods.  He could be caught swinging his sisters around as they danced along with Dancing With The Stars.  He could name all the characters of his favorite television shows, Dukes of Hazard, Gunsmoke, Big Valley, Bionic Man, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.  Red tennis shoes were his prized possessions.

His Celebration of Life will be held May 21, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, with Bro. Rick Russell officiating.   Inurnment will be in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.  A  Memorial dinner will be held at Hound Dog Harris' Venue on McMahon's Chapel Road at 3 p.m.
